The fires in the North Bay began on the evening of Sunday, October 8. By the middle of that following week, our team of program officers and grants managers was researching what organizations were providing services for the thousands of people who had been affected. It was especially helpful that three members of our staff—Melissa Morazan, Eunice Valentine, and Emily Schroeder—either live in the North Bay or have close relatives that do. Once we knew more about the organizations that were serving people and animals affected by the fires, we brought what we learned to foundation boards so they could consider and authorize grants.

As of the end of December 2017 a total of $498,500 has been donated. Among the foundations which made grants are the Atkinson, Bothin, Cleo, Crescent Porter Hale, Kimball, Pinpoint, and Sand Hill Foundations. Pacific Foundation Services also donated. We are proud to work for foundations whose trustees reacted to the devastation with such speed and generosity.

Grants were given to the following organizations (in no particular order):

We know that there will be continuing needs going forward as the people of the North Bay rebuild their communities.  If you are interested in making a donation or have questions about how you could help, please contact Mary Gregory.
