The Women’s Foundation of California’s Funders Policy Institute: An Institute for Engaged Philanthropists & Funders is a three-day hands-on, immersive learning program focused on California’s public policy systems. Participants engage with and learn from policymakers and advocates while connecting with other philanthropists who are committed to effective, policy-based grantmaking. The Institute will take place May 5-8, 2020 in Sacramento.
Connect with Fellow Philanthropists
FPI brings together philanthropic leaders from all sectors and geographies, from national funders with a focus on California, to regional family foundations. Participants’ backgrounds range from those with new interest in systems change through policy advocacy to experienced grantmakers interested in refining their long-term strategy. Previous FPI cohorts have included individual philanthropists and philanthropic leaders from a broad range of organizations and affiliations.
In the words of PFS Senior Program Officer Ash McNeely, who attended in 2019, “The Funders Policy Institute gave me an inside view of how California policy is developed at the state and local levels. This knowledge has enriched my ability to discern and analyze the strongest approaches to policy change across a broad range of social issues.”
Over the course of the training, participants will learn:
- Best-practices to support policy advocacy
- Investment strategies that bolster policy change
- Lobbying and advocacy rules for foundations and nonprofits
- Partnership approaches with community advocates
