each
stage can be enhanced by the work of Pacific Foundation Services,
either through workshops led by staff, consultation with staff,
or through our management services

The
initial years of a foundation are often spent learning about the needs
of the community through grantmaking. PFS can help a foundation board
decide on its philanthropic interests, and then introduce it to organizations
that fall within those areas of concern. PFS can set up systems for
the smooth operation of the foundation. |
|
 |
As foundations
develop, systems are in place and the board of the foundation feels
comfortable in its work, but there may be ways in which more targeted
giving can make a more significant impact on the community. PFS can
help the board revisit the foundation's guidelines in order to clarify
the foundation's program areas and methods of grantmaking. Staff can
also guide board members as they reevaluate the effectiveness of their
grantmaking, helping the foundation to create the greatest possible
benefit, and thus the greatest satisfaction to the foundation board. |
|
 |
Time
brings additional challenges and transitions to all foundations: the
retirement of the founder(s), the rise of a next generation of board
members, geographic dispersal of board members - all of these can
raise new questions about how the foundation operates and what its
focus should be. PFS staff members are well-qualified to help foundations
make informed decisions regarding these transitional issues. |
