Stages
of a Family Foundation
PFS works with families and
trustees to identify funding priorities, develop guidelines, manage foundation
activities, seek out programs that fit the guidelines and respond to inquiries
from programs. Each stage of the foundation’s life cycle can be
enhanced by the work of Pacific Foundation Services, either through staff-led
workshops, consultation with staff, convening of experts in the field
of philanthropic interest or through our full management services.
Program
Services
Our program services include due diligence and extensive research about
each potential grant recipient. We conduct site visits, attend briefings
on community issues, and create and maintain a positive reputation for
the foundation in the community. PFS handles all of the nuts and bolts
of effective philanthropy: we work with accountants and money managers
to set budgets, host distribution meetings, prepare grant reports and
annual reports, maintain an individual webpage for each foundation and
oversee all activities to ensure that grantmaking is as rewarding as possible.
Administrative
Services
Pacific Foundation Services can take care of all of the back office needs
of your foundation: correspondence, data entry, federal and state tax
compliance, Form 990 filing, general bookkeeping and budgeting, oversight
of the money management and finance committee work, report preparation
and grants management. We serve clients as if our office is your office,
and all of our resources are available to all of our clients.
Consulting
Services
New foundations, individual donors, and families with donor-advised funds
often find it helpful to consult experienced sources. Our consulting services
can be very useful to foundations that have achieved their nonprofit status
but don't yet have full-time staff, but long-established foundations have
approached us for help to learn about a particular program area or to
refocus their grant-making.
