The Bothin Foundation (pronounced "bo-THEEN") was established by Henry E. Bothin, his wife, Ellen Chabot Bothin, and daughter, Genevieve Bothin de Limur, and incorporated as a private foundation in the State of California in 1917. Guidelines The Bothin Foundation supports organizations providing direct services to disadvantaged children, youth and families, the elderly and disabled, in San Francisco, Marin, Sonoma, and San Mateo Counties. The Foundation makes capital grants for building, vehicle, and equipment needs. The Foundation supports environmental and arts organizations to the extent to which they serve youth. Grants are not made to individuals, endowment drives, events, general operating expenses, annual appeals, videos, medical research, scholarships, religious organizations, or educational institutions other than those which serve the learning disabled. To ensure a broad spectrum of organizations, the Board will not consider additional grants until three full years have elapsed. The Board meets three times each year (spring, summer, fall) to make grants. The Foundation will accept proposals for the May 2009 meeting from February 23 through March 9, 2009. Complete proposals must be received in the Bothin offices no later than 12:00 p.m. of the final date. The Foundation does not accept electronic submissions. Proposals must include the following:
