Pacific Foundation Services, LLC (PFS) works with private foundations to plan, execute, and oversee their philanthropic giving. Our innovative service model is specifically tailored to meet your foundation’s immediate needs while simultaneously helping you achieve your long-term goals.
Our strategic services are innovative, offering flexible and cost-effective options that make it easier to maximize your grantmaking experience.
We can help you identify philanthropic interests and design grantmaking programs to fulfill those interests. As part of this process, we also help create and refine the board’s vision/mission statement, as well as formulate application procedures that are relevant and responsive to the nonprofit community. Through guided review and evaluation of your foundation’s funding impact, we can assist you with establishing clear grantmaking guidelines and objectives.
Tax, legal, communication, and by-law requirements can be overwhelming. How can you maximize your giving without hiring a dozen people or drowning in paperwork?
We can function as your foundation’s office, with all of our resources available to manage your back-office needs. Beginning with a dedicated address for all foundation communications and operations, PFS is equipped to provide a wide range of administrative support—from collecting foundation mail and coordinating and hosting board meetings, to providing detailed accounting services. We offer sophisticated database, bookkeeping, and grants management capabilities, as well as connection to a reputable network of referral partners providing audit, tax, investment, and legal services.
We are here to manage all of the nuts and bolts of effective philanthropy so that grantmaking is as rewarding as possible for you.
In addition to managing administrative tasks—such as assisting with setting budgets, hosting distribution meetings, preparing reports, and maintaining your individual web page—we represent your foundation in the local nonprofit and philanthropic communities, research potential grantees and projects in your area(s) of interest, and conduct site visits with potential grantees. We’ll help your board create evaluation procedures and we work with grantees to develop strong funding relationships. We stay attuned to philanthropic issues and trends through memberships in national and local philanthropic organizations, such as Northern California Grantmakers, the Council on Foundations, and Grantmakers for Education.
Philanthropic Legacy Services
Family foundations often include multiple generations, and giving principles are often based on deeply held values and traditions. We understand.
We began as a family foundation ourselves, and we particularly enjoy helping family foundations encourage younger members to become actively involved in philanthropy. Through giving, families often discover new, rewarding ways to work together. We can help you effectively translate family values into a mission, vision, and action with diligence and care. When family foundations are well managed, they can become a special source of family intimacy, inter-generational understanding, and personal fulfillment. These benefits may be hard to quantify, but they make an important and lasting difference.
With circumstances, perspectives, and regulations changing over time, foundations often find consulting experienced, neutral sources from beyond the family or current board can be helpful.
While it’s our goal to develop long-term relationships with our clients, PFS periodically provides short-term, project-based engagements designed to meet the needs of new or established foundations.
